Tourism in Austria

Austria is a land-locked German-speaking country, bordered by the Czech Republic and Germany to the north, Hungary and Slovakia to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtensein to the west. Austria consists of 9 independent federal states (Bundesländer) with their own provincial governments: Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna. Vienna is the capital of Austria.
With approximately 8 million inhabitants, Austria is well known for its food, imperial history, alpine countryside, beautiful architecture and birth of classical musicians including Mozart and Strauss and artists and architects such as Klimt, Schiele and Otto Wagner, making this country a very popular tourist destination.

ENTRY AND RESIDENCE PERMITS
Australian citizens do not need an entry permit (visa) to stay in Austria as tourists or on a business trip for a period of up to 90 days. If you enter Austria visa free, you are generally not allowed to take up any employment there. It is the length of your stay that will determine the type of permit you need.
